Hampshire downs spring into Easter

The Hampshire down sheep breeders association held its annual spring lamb sale on Tuesday 15th March in Rathfriland mart. Mr Jim Quail of Banbridge judged the spring lambs on show awarding Mr Trevor Fegan of Loughbrickland 1st and Champion with his 20.5 kilo lambs which sold that night for £122. Hannah Robinson from Donaghadee was placed 2nd and Reserve champion with her 25.5 kilo lambs which sold for £98, with Mr Jim & Ann Fletcher of Comber receiving 3rd place for their 23 kilo lambs which went onto sell for £104. Mr Fegan later went onto sell another lamb which weighed 26 kilos for £130 and Mr Allen McFadden of Banbridge sold a 22 kilo lamb for £120.

As Easter is early this year the Hampshire down breed excels the weights giving the butcher the early market lamb for their customers.
